Healed Implants in Atrophic Ridge

Prosthesis from Dental Laboratory

Final Prosthesis in Place

PROBLEM

When teeth are extracted from the dental arch, there is no longer function to stimulate the bone. Overtime, the body will naturally resorb any bone not stimulated adequately resulting in an atrophic ridge. When this happens, the denture prosthesis no longer fits correctly and is very loose and painful to use. Often the ridge has become so atrophic the person becomes a dental "cripple" and cannot tolerate the denture at all.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

With the atrophic mandible, no satisfactory options were available prior to having successful implant treatment. The number of implants used to assist a lower denture or eliminate any removable appliance can vary from just two to five or more. With five or more the denture becomes a fixed bridge replacement as the photographs above demonstrate.
