PROBLEMIndividual teeth may be congenitally missing or lost due to decay or accident. A typical story may include multiple attempts to restore a seriously damaged tooth that only works for a few years and continues to fail until the tooth is hopeless. TREATMENT OPTIONSWith one missing tooth we have three treatment options. 1. Single-tooth implants are shown in the above series of photographs. The advantage of the implant includes: there is no need to remove the enamel from the adjacent teeth, the bone is stimulated to maintain the jawbone, it is stronger than a bridge, and looks more natural. 2. A bridge uses the two adjacent teeth to support the false tooth. The support teeth must be ground down to receive a supporting crown. The bridge is fixed on these teeth. 3. A removable partial denture must be taken in and out of the mouth for cleaning after each meal. They tend to collect food and plaque around the supporting teeth, which creates decay on these teeth. The plastic parts wear and they become loose over time. |
